17,730 PointsRahul Khanna , that really depends. PHP is a great starting point in my opinion for learning web development. However it's not always the best choice. First you might want to lay out the needs of the social network. Think about it, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, these forums are all examples of social networks yet all serve different purposes and have different needs as to what is needed in the backend. So first layout the application. Then start evaluating languages to see which ones will best serve your needs. These might be some helpful links:

PHP is good starting point yeah. I don't think you need to to go futher like Rails. I guess you could start of with RoR insteaf of PHP as well, but i jjust hink PHP has great functions for a beginner, and get into it on how itw works.
