The purpose of using checkbox.parentNode.parentNode is clear, but couldn't one just declare the li used in the video as a global variable instead, this way you wouldn't need to use the checkbox.parentNode.parentNode

231,275 PointsThe DOM traversal is needed because the list item it is referencing is specific to the checkbox just clicked. Since the checkboxes and list items are created dynamically by user interaction, there's nothing initially for a global to reference.
A global would also not be of much use when several checkbox and list items have been created.
