Accessibility....semantic markups?

We’re talking about Accessibility here...why use so many “DIV’s” and why not semantic markup...ie nav..main.section....aside which screen readers will be able to detect which part of the site its on...

You didn't link to a video or mention which course you're working with, but I'd bet it's either one that is intended to be taken before the one(s) that introduce the semantic tags, or perhaps it's one that was created before the semantic tags were generally recognized by all browsers.
