adding# symbol to a string

how do i add a "#" symbol to a string when using the .toUpperCase command

var id = "23188xtr#";
var lastName = "Smith";

var userName = id.toUpperCase()"#"lastName.toUpperCase();

var lastName = "Smith";

var userName = id.toUpperCase() + "#" + lastName.toUpperCase()

You need to concatenate as is you were just adding them together. With the above, the final string would be 23188XTR##SMITH
