Alternate way to use float()?

def add(num1,num2): return float(num1 + num2) Python shell takes this just fine, does not hold up in answer box, can someone help me see what it wants from me? Is there another way to code this?

Kris,

The way you are coding it will pass in step 2 of 3 but it won't hold up in section 3 of 3 since you need to apply a try statement to the unfloated numbers.

Here's what I did. Code the following in section 2 of 3.

def add(num1, num2):
    num1 = float(num1)
    num2 = float(num2)
    return num1 + num2

Which will allow you to code in the try on 3 of 3.

def add(num1, num2):
    try:
        num1 = float(num1)
        num2 = float(num2)
    except ValueError:
        return None
    else:
        return num1 + num2
