317 PointsAre .htaccess files a good practice?
.htaccess files are specific to the Apache webserver. What if I'm writing a PHP application that users should be able to deploy on any setup of their choice? (For ex. nginx, or PHP's built-in server. ) Is there a way to design my application to be compatible with most popular webservers out there?

Courses Plus Student 6,573 PointsTypically, .htaccess files are used to create URLs patterns for your application. You can use the .htaccess file to secure certain directories and files as well, but mostly I've seen them use to establish a particular look for your URLs. That being said, .htaccess is not an essential tool for your application and should be optional. You can always implement pretty URLs via your application design as well.
