assign upper case version of the id variable to username.

this is my solution: var userName += id.toUpperCase();

It throw an error. Does anyone know what do I do wrong?

Oh you're so close here!. You're trying to append the id to userName which doesn't have anything in it so it doesn't really understand what you're going for. What we want here is a simple assignment operator which is a single equals sign. Take a look:

var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";

var userName = id.toUpperCase();
