I think you're missing a dollar sign here?

<?php

print_r ($favorite_colors);

and you'll need to define $favorite_colors before you can print it:

$favorite_colors = array(
  'mike'=>'red',
  'jane' =>'blue',
  'chris' =>'green');

  print_r ($favorite_colors);
