At :31 - in the framework for the code the last object in the array is followed by a comma

It would. It's called a Trailing comma. While it's not necessary to include, it does have some uses as the MDN page I link to state.

It's worth mentioning though that trailing commas in objects are not supported by all browsers, even though they are technically valid. Namely IE seems to have poor support of it, so it's not generally recommended.
