can someone read my code please?!

Every time I go into my preview my name and the "portfolio" button have changed color to violet and when I click on the "portfolio" button nothing happens unlike the "about and contact" buttons that lead you to another page. What went wrong?

<!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <meta charset="utf-8"> <title> Cole Anderson | Designer</title> </head> <body> <header> <a href="index.html"> <h1>Cole Anderson</h1> <h2>Designer</h2> </a> <nav> <ul> <li><a href="index.html">Portfolio</a></li> <li><a href="about.html">About</a></li> <li><a href="contact.html">Contact</a></li> </ul> </nav> </header> <section> <ul> <li> <img src="img/numbers-01.jpg" alt=""> </li> </ul> </section> <footer> <p>Ā© 2015 Cole Anderson.</p> </footer> </body> </html>

Nothing went wrong.

  • The reason Portfolio doesn't take you to a new page is because you're already on the Portfolio page (index.html)
  • Your name and 'designer' are turning purple because they are links. The default color of a link is blue and the default color of a visited link is purple

A lot of IDE's (integrated development environments) will change the colour of certain parts, to help the coder with writing. So as you can see, in the code you have listed, your tags are in green, the links are violet, and text that will actually show on the screen is that light grey. It's a useful way to see if you've made mistakes when skimming through your code, the IDE can pick up some errors (spelling ones for example), and help highlight them for you to fix.

Ok thank you so much. One more thing, the part where you have to put the picture in to the code is not working even though i have done it completely right and have checked it a million times. I have no clue. thanks Jeff.
