Can we get an introduction as to why we should use RxJava.?

I think we should learn the following before diving in to the workshop: What problem does RxJava solve? How does RxJava make Android Development easier? Jaime mentions it is similar to Loaders, but much cleaner...is that its major benefit? What are the other benefits?
