Android Build a Simple Android App (2014) Basic Android Programming Accessing Views in Code

Cannot find symbol class textView

So i'm in the process of making the fun facts app and when i try to build it, i get the errors below. Also, in the video you get a data type error because on the right hand side its a generic type while on the left its a textView. But in my case, I dont get that error, why is that? is it because I tried to 'build' my project before finish the video?
