Python Python Collections (2016, retired 2019) Dictionaries Word Count

Cannot find what is wrong with my code

I cannot find what's wrong with my script. When I input the test string ("I do not like it Sam I Am"), I get the expected output. However, the challenge returns an error saying "didn't get the expected output".

wordcount.py
# E.g. word_count("I do not like it Sam I Am") gets back a dictionary like:
# {'i': 2, 'do': 1, 'it': 1, 'sam': 1, 'like': 1, 'not': 1, 'am': 1}
# Lowercase the string to make it easier.
def word_count(string):
    word_list = string.lower().split(" ")
    dictionary = {}
    for word in word_list:
        try:
            dictionary[word] += 1
        except KeyError:
            dictionary[word] = 1
    return dictionary

Try changing the split(" ") to split() as it will gather all white space and treat it as a single separator.
