cant get past this

i have tried more than 10 ways to add these strings but its not working......

var lastName = "Smith";

Hi James

You've got the right idea.

You are wrapping quotes around the id.toUpperCase() and you are adding "." without concatenating the string, this isnt needed for the challenge requirements.

The solution is below, see if you can spot the difference between the two.

var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";

var userName = id.toUpperCase() + '#' + lastName.toUpperCase();
