can't seem to pass this challenge

it says syntax error for the line return number*

squared.py
def squared ():
  try:
      square=int(number)**2
      return square 
  except:
      return number * 

Try this:

def squared(arg):
  try:
    return int(arg) ** 2
  except ValueError:
    return arg * len(arg)
