CSS How to Make a Website CSS: Cascading Style Sheets Style the Basic Elements

"center on page using the margin property" - CSS centering

I tried setting all of these

(first) max-width: 940px; margin: center;

(then) max-width: 940px; margin: 0;

(and then) max-width: 940px; text-align: center; margin: 0

All of them turned up incorrect. I am sure I am missing something stupid. Please let me know what you see.

(Should I not be hashtagging the wrapper selector? But I thought we did that when it was an "ID". That was my only other idea.)

This is all so... humbling.

css/main.css
a {
    text-decoration: none;
  }

#wrapper {
  max-width: 940px;
  margin: 0;
  }
