What’s wrong with my solution to Challenge Task 1 of 1: wordcount.py? Treehouse says “ Bummer! Hmm, didn't get the expected output. Be sure you're lowercasing the string and splitting on all whitespace!"
I think my solution[below] works fine.
def word_count(a_string): word_list = a_string . lower().split(' ') w_count = {} for word in word_list: word_occurrence = word_list.count(word) w_count . update({word: word_occurrence})
return w_count
# E.g. word_count("I do not like it Sam I Am") gets back a dictionary like:
# {'i': 2, 'do': 1, 'it': 1, 'sam': 1, 'like': 1, 'not': 1, 'am': 1}
# Lowercase the string to make it easier
def word_count(a_string):
word_list = a_string . lower().split(' ')
w_count = {}
for word in word_list:
word_occurrence = word_list.count(word)
w_count . update({word: word_occurrence})
return w_count

Python Web Development Techdegree Graduate 58,248 PointsIt is the way you use split(). Like split(' ') only looks for single white-spaces, where split() will look for single and multiple.
