Challenge Task 4 of 4
Now use a DOM element's innerHTML property to set the HTML inside the sidebar div to the server's response.
Bummer! To place the server's response inside the div, you need to assign the XHR object's responseText property to the innerHTML property, like this: document.getElementById('sidebar').innerHTML = xhr.responseText;
What am i Doing Wrong?
var xhr = new XMLHttpRequest();
xhr.onreadystatechange = function() {
if (xhr.readyState === 4){
xhr.status = 200
document.getElementById('sidebar').innerHTML = xhr.sidebar;
}
};
xhr.open('GET', 'sidebar.html');
xhr.send();
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8">
<title>AJAX with JavaScript</title>
<script src="app.js"></script>
</head>
<body>
<div id="main">
<h1>AJAX!</h1>
</div>
<div id="sidebar"></div>
</body>
</html>

24,512 PointsHi Andrew,
In app.js, you may want to change xhr.sidebar to xhr.responseText
var xhr = new XMLHttpRequest();
xhr.onreadystatechange = function() {
if (xhr.readyState === 4){
xhr.status = 200
document.getElementById('sidebar').innerHTML = xhr.responseText; // changed from xhr.sidebar to xhr.responseText
}
};
xhr.open('GET', 'sidebar.html');
xhr.send();
Hope this helps!
