code not working

I'm writing the code as instructed and following the previous example syntax but unfortunately when checking task 2, somehow task 1 gets broken (or so the error says)

app.js
var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";

var userName = id.toUpperCase();

userName += "#" + lastName;
index.html

<body>
<script src="app.js"></script>
</body>
</html>

you are not quite doing what the challenge asks. the error causes it to say task 1 no longer passes. there's one thing you need to do to lastname to get the string they are asking for.

Sometimes the message from the challenges aren't that helpful.

The only problem is, you didn't call toUpperCase on the lastName variable when userName was updated.
