Confused the video says add the “pound”, but then they add the hash symbol “#” not the pound symbol “£”. Which is it?

Confused the video says add the “pound”, but then they add the hash symbol “#” not the pound symbol “£”. Which is it? Guessing they mistakenly say Pound when they really mean Hash?.....

Hi Kim,

Yes, that is confusing! In the US, we sometimes call the "#" symbol a "pound" symbol. You are probably from the UK and I am guessing they don't ever say that there. So if you hear "pound" symbol in one of these American made videos they probably mean "#". Though I think calling it a hash symbol would be a better choice.

Just so you think I am not making this up:

Cheers!

Thanks Heidi, Yes I am from the UK so we don’t ever call it a pound ( obviously because of our monetary system using the pound). So makes total sense that this would be a US term. Thank you :)

Thanks for your reply and explanation

the Hash symbol is called the pound key from the telephone. This term was lost with the use of "hashtag"
