how should I test the function inside the condition what operator should be used?

You want to create a function that takes an argument with letter than use number to compare it. Lastly, return the greatest value. Something like this

function max(a,b) { }
 if( a > b) {
   return a;
}

else {
     return b;
}
max(10,20);  // 10 is a and b is 20
