CSS changes not updating

When I enter the css details for background colour and width etc these are not showing when i look at a preview.

Any help would be really appreciated!

I think the problem is here: 

£wrapper { max-width: 940px; margin: 0 auto; padding: 0 5%; background: orange; }

You select ids using the #, not the £.
