Difference between activity and content?

In my layout folder, I have activity_main.xml, activity_story.xml, content_main.xml, and finally content_story.xml. My content_main.xml and content_story.xml look like the activity_main.xml and activity_story.xml from the video. It seems to me that this could be because of an update to android studio since this video was published? I'm just wondering what my activity_main.xml and activity_story.xml are doing if he only needed the content that I have in my content_main.xml and content_story.xml. Thanks in advance.
