difference between global and package installed last video

having problems seeing what the -g flag specifically does. last video i didnt install bcrypt with my project files (and i didnt use the -g flag), but bcrypt still worked in the javascript file. how is a global package/module different?

If you’re installing something that you want to use in your program, install it locally, at the root of your project (--save).

If you’re installing something that you want to use in your shell, on the command line, install it globally, so that its binaries end up in your PATH environment variable.
