Disconnecting device from AndroidStudio

I've read many conflicting views on this topic. I'm running adb and using my phone as the actual device to test my apps, how do I safely disconnect it? I'm using a Nexus 5.

Just disconnect it. It won't break your phone. It's what every dev I know does.
