Don't know what I'm doing wrong here...

Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong here? Can't seem to figure it out.

maps.py
backwards = [
    'tac',
    'esuoheerT',
    'htenneK',
    [5, 4, 3, 2, 1],
]

def reverse(item1):
     return list(reversed(item1))

forwards = map(reverse, backwards)

I figured it out by doing return item1[::-1] but still not sure why the above doesn't work...I thought reversed() does the same things as [::-1]

Changed to answer.

reversed() doesn't work for strings:

information.
>>> list(reversed("esuoheerT"))
['T', 'r', 'e', 'e', 'h', 'o', 'u', 's', 'e']
>>> "esuoheerT"[::-1]
'Treehouse'
