Make sure to assign the secret variable to the user prompt inside your do code block. Or else secret will only be changed at the very top when it's initialized and not when the prompt is called from within the do block.

do { secret = prompt("What is the secret password?"); }
while (secret != "sesame");

Also, I wouldn't ask for the input at the top at all. Since a do, while loop executes at least one time regardless of if the statement passes or not. I would just assign secret an empty string until the do block.

var secret = "";

do { secret = prompt("What is the secret password?"); }
while (secret != "sesame");

thank you for your help

No prob! An upvote or "best answer" would be greatly appreciated! :)

i tried without the empty string as a variable and it works the same.

do { secret = prompt("What is the secret password?"); } while (secret !== "sesame" );

document.write("You know the secret password. Welcome.");
