Editing Wordpress Themes in Admin Area(Bitnami)

I am having difficultly working with Bitnami and downloading files from a wordpress site I am working on. Am I able to edit and add CSS styling in the editor section of the theme I have picked or do I have to download the files edit them outside of wordpress and re-upload back onto site?

Has anyone have experience troubleshooting Bitnami?

Hi Scott,

Normally you'll edit themes via template files either via FTP software if it's on a hosted server or if it's a local installation. via the directory on your harddrive.

However you can also edit template files directly from your Admin Area by going to

Appearance ----> Editor

Good luck :)

Jonathan Grieve,

Thank you for your timely response. If i edit directly from Appearance--. editor, won't the edits I do on the theme get lost when they update the them?

Hi Scott,

They will be yes, unless you can get access to the files, again via FTP and either make a child theme, or make a backup of the files and resend them to the server.

Making a child theme will protect you from any losses or resets because of theme updates.

I've just realised though you're talking about Bitnami, I'm not sure if that works the same way. :-)
