Entered into a recurring cycle

count=0
attempt=input('enter the password')
while attempt != 'opensesame
    print('please try again')
    count += 1
print('enter please')

can someone please help me understand what's wrong here.

Looks like you are missing a closing quote mark and colon on while attempt != 'opensesame

The line before every indented block should always end with a colon (:)

Also, there is no way out of the while loop. Since attempt is set outside of the loop, it will either always match or never match "opensesame" if the loop is entered.

Post back if you need more help. Good luck!!

Isn't it because the instructions after 'while' is 'print' as opposed to 'input'? That's why mine kept recurring infinitely.

Correct. Adding an input statement (or changing the print to input) and setting a new value for attempt would help fix the infinite recurrence.

Also, count is not yet used as a limit to break the loop.
