Error

I know I have the right answer, but the website keeps rejecting my solution; I think the problem is broken

wordcount.py 
# E.g. word_count("I do not like it Sam I Am") gets back a dictionary like:
# {'i': 2, 'do': 1, 'it': 1, 'sam': 1, 'like': 1, 'not': 1, 'am': 1}
# Lowercase the string to make it easier.
def word_count(string):
    lower_string = string.lower()
    word_list = lower_string.split(" ")
    word_dict = {}
    count = 0
    for word in word_list:
        if word not in word_dict.keys():
            count = word_list.count(word)
            word_dict[word] = count

Perhaps it's not quite as "right" as you thought. :wink:

At first glace, I notice two issues:

  • the instructions say "The function needs to return a dictionary", but nothing is being returned
  • the input is being split on explicit spaces instead of all whitespace
