Error in android studio

I was in introducing string resources and I followed the instructions to enable the use of the Keyboard. I finished the avd manager. Now I get this error with this statement " import android.support.v7.app.AppCompatActivity;" It says unused import statement and it cannot resolve AppCompatActivity. I really appreciate any help in resolving this.
