Error on first install of wordpress

I have just begun wordpress and have got to the video that sent me to desktop server. Followed all the instructions exactly to install the desktop server, launched it and set up something called wpdemo.dev, clicked to launch and safari says it cannot connect.

Exact error is Safari can't open the page "wpdemo.dev/wp-admin/install.php" because Safari cannot connect to the server "wpdemo.dev".

Did you make sure the server is turned on?
