I don't really understand what you are trying to do. If you're passing two floats into a function then you do not need to label them floats. Just make sure they are floats when you pass them in. 

def add (gain, mike):
    return (gain + mike)

gain = 3.1
mike = 2.1

result = (gain, mike)
print (result)

You can't call functions inside your parameter declarations.

But this seems to be a duplicate question, and there's already an example solution posted to the original question.
