WordPress How to Install WordPress on Your Computer How to Install WordPress on Your Computer The WordPress Setup Wizard

Followed 'How to install WordPress on your computer' but get an 'Error 404' message when I click the URL to my .dev site

I have followed the steps on the 'How to Install WordPress on your computer' tutorial. Desktop Server installed successfully but when I click on the link to my .dev site, I get an error 404 message - Object Not Found'. I'm running OSX 10.6.8 which should be compatible with the version of Desktop Server I selected.

Christian, I was having the same problem you are talking about here. If the problem is still occurring for you then I can suggest keeping the same destination folder for the 'site root'. I initially changed the folder destination to 'desktop', and as this did not have the correct permissions it lead to the issue.

hope it works.

Christian, I'm having this same issue. Andrew, re: your comment, I never changed the site root folder, but I still encountered this problem. Thanks for the input, anyway - I'm interested to see whether your solution worked for Christian. Anyone else having the same problem find a solution? Thanks!

Hi Christian,

Are you sure you've oven a localhost connection to your database when you installed Wordpress. It should come installed with somthing like phpmyadmin which is where the database information is stored.
