Front end web/app developer or virtual reality developer?

Hi as many of you many already know. Virtual reality headsets have entered the hardware technology field a in big way and are causing quite a buzz in the tech community. I have been a gamer my whole life. And also a tech enthusiast. I recently started my Full stack JavaScript tech degree with teamtreehouse.

Although I am thoroughly engaged and am enjoying it very much, I can't help but notice the bounds and leaps being taken in the Virtual reality world. Virtual reality excites me in such a major way. I find it astonishing and amazing! I believe it definitely the future and virtual reality is a disrupting game changing piece of hardware. It will change how we communicate, entertain ourselves, learn and explore new bounds of our imagination.

At the same time I am now 23 years old, I have a daughter on the way (Partner is 33 weeks pregnant). I have been douching around and wasting time working several part time jobs for a while now. However I have always been an entrepreneur at heart! I have always been do excited with the notion of freedom to express my vision through products and services to provide others value and improve society for the better in a major way. I want to be a part of this disruptive industry of virtual reality, however due to the mistreatment of game developers (conclusion I've come to after reading 100s of stories), low wage, over saturated game developer market, the extreme difficulty of breaking into the industry and vastness of the projects which seem too ginormous for a solo developer have kept me at bay. While being a front end web app developer seems like an extremely value career choice, it would make me feel very uneasy if I simply sat around and let the virtual industry become the staple of interactive technology. However almost on all fronts, software developers are a scarce resource, better paid, better treated and my front end web/app developer market isn't too saturated. Thus allowing me a good chance of breaking into the industry after I work my butt off to build the necessary skills.

I also do think it might be a risk going into the virtual reality side of things just yet as the industry is fairly new and opportunities are not as wide spread as one would prefer; being a new comer onto the scene. And also, I have a family now so I find it that front end web/app development is a slightly safer route.

I am very much confused on a choice which has been EXTREMELY difficult. Therefore I need help in making this decision. Should I go down the virtual reality developer route or stick to front web developer/software developer route?

Also what are your thought on the new WebVR libraries, Oculus's very own browser codenamed 'carmel'? Do you think it is a better choice to go down the WebVR route instead in which I can use essentially the same skills as I would as a front end web developer? as this will leave me with some option. Or should I just dive right into the full PC VR developer route and start learning game development, virtual reality development etc?

What are your thought on the new Udacity NanoDegree program on virtual reality and the upcoming Virtual reality TechDegree by TeamtreeHouse?

I would greatly appreciate an answer. Thank you in advance.

Kind regards,

Fahad
