Function count()

I am doing an exercise that is a part of this tutorial: https://teamtreehouse.com/library/build-a-basic-php-website/listing-and-sorting-inventory-items/introducing-arrays

But during the previous videos nothing has been mention about count() function.

How can I see a basic example of this count() function?

Thank you

index.php
<?php
$letters = array (
  "A",
  "C",
  "M",
  "E");

echo "Today's challenge is brought to you by the ";
echo "2";
echo " letters: ";
echo "AC";
echo ".";

?>

At the very basic level of the count() function, when you pass in an array to the count function, it returns an integer of the total number of elements inside of it. So if you had an array of letters like above:

// init array
$letters = ['A', 'C', 'M', 'E'];

echo count($letters); // returns 4
