3,980 PointsGetting `NameError: name 'random_item' is not defined` in code challenge that works elsewhere
This works when I try it in my text editor and Terminal, but it's getting rejected as a code challenge answer based on NameError. What am I missing?
# EXAMPLE
# random_item("Treehouse")
# The randomly selected number is 4.
# The return value would be "h"
import random
def random_item(item):
item.split()
return item[random.randint(0,len(item))-1]

3,980 PointsTurns out it was the item.split()
line. That was not needed. Very helpful explanatory post here: https://teamtreehouse.com/community/random
