Why are you linking the full <nav> element?

Hey there. You are forgetting to close a couple elements and some of them are in the wrong area. Your nav element and un-ordered list need to OUTSIDE of the anchor element for the H1 and H2. You currently have it nestled. You also need to close the NAV and UL tags. Here is what the header code should look like.

<header>
      <a href="index.html">
        <h1>Nick Pettit</h1>
        <h2>Designer</h2>
      </a>
      <nav>
        <ul>
          <li><a href="index.html">Portfolio</a></li>
          <li><a href="about.html">About</a></li>
          <li><a href="contact.html">Contact</a></li>
        </ul>
      </nav>
    </header>

Hope this helps!

thank you

Try taking out the anchor that you open right below the header and close right after the h2. This is wrapping everything within your header to be a single link to index.html and messing up the links in your list items.
