JavaScript JavaScript Basics (Retired) Creating Reusable Code with Functions Passing an Argument to a Function

Having trouble storing the functions returned value in my echo variable.

I was able to get through step 1 but am stuck on step 2.

script.js
function returnValue( something ) {
  return something;
  var echo = returnValue();
}
returnValue('hello');
index.html

You need to create a variable outside of the function. Try this :)

function returnValue ( something ) {
    return something;
}

var echo = returnValue("Any string you want");

You have called returnValue(); within your function, and I don't think the challenge needs a recursive function.

Instead it just wants you pass an argument to the function and then return so if you do something like this;

function returnValue( something ) {
  return something;
  // remove this line - var echo = returnValue();
}
returnValue('hello');

it will work
