18,114 PointsHello guys, I've tried several types of code with no success. Can I get a little help?
def contains?(name) index = 0 contains_item = false todo_items.each do |item| if item.name == name contains_item = true
index += 1
end
end
end
class TodoList
attr_reader :name, :todo_items
def initialize(name)
@name = name
@todo_items = []
end
def add_item(name)
todo_items.push(TodoItem.new(name))
end
def contains?(name)
index = 0
contains_item = false
todo_items.each do |item|
if item.name == name
contains_item = true
index += 1
end
end
end
def find_index(name)
index = 0
found = false
todo_items.each do |item|
found = true if item.name == name
break if found
index += 1
end
if found
return index
else
return nil
end
end
end

Courses Plus Student 26,868 PointsHi there. You need to return the value of contains_item
after the each loop, otherwise your method has a nil as return value.
def contains?(name)
index = 0
contains_item = false
todo_items.each do |item|
if item.name == name
contains_item = true
index += 1
end
end
return contains_item # return value, very important
end
Also, since you're using the each loop approach for this challenge, the local variable index is serving no purpose here, might as well delete all lines containing it to cleanup the code a little bit.
def contains?(name)
contains_item = false
todo_items.each do |item|
if item.name == name
contains_item = true
end
end
return contains_item
end
Hope it helps.
