check the comments for explanation:

available = "banana split;hot fudge;cherry;malted;black and white"

sundaes = available.split(';')

#colon not semi-colon in below string.
menu = "Our available flavors are: {}."

#first form a string and then fill that string into the menu-string.
#The string to be formed is: banana split, hot fudge, cherry, ..... and so on.
#we have list of above items.
#join the list-items using the string ", "
#display_menu = ", ".join(sundaes);

#update the display_menu
#menu = menu.format(display_menu)

#to become brave:
menu = "Our available flavors are: {}.".format(", ".join(sundaes));
