I am not sure how to add .toUpperCase to the id variable and then to add all of that to var userName
var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";
id.toUpperCase();
var userName + id.toUpperCase();

14,243 PointsuserName is a new variable so you need to add the string to it like this. After that you concatenate the lastName string as shown below.
var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";
var userName = id.toUpperCase() + "#" + lastName.toUpperCase()
