JavaScript JavaScript Basics (Retired) Storing and Tracking Information with Variables Using String Methods

Hi I know I did something wrong — but I did add the # character between the 2 variables so the comment isn't helpful

What is actually incorrect?

app.js
var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";

var userName = id.toUpperCase(); + "#" + lastName.toUpperCase();
index.html
<!DOCTYPE HTML>
<html>
<head>
  <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8">
  <title>JavaScript Basics</title>
</head>
<body>
<script src="app.js"></script>
</body>
</html>

you added an extra semicolon

id.toUpperCase();

, this is the correct line:

var userName = id.toUpperCase() + "#" + lastName.toUpperCase();

Diane,

The problem here is a common one: a syntax error! You've got a semi-colon still sitting after the initial assignment to the userName variable, i.e. the 'id.toUpperCase();' portion. Remove the semi-colon after 'id.toUpperCase()' and you're good to go!

Erik

I did finally figure it out — but thanks so much for your help!
