Hi, I was informed that it's no longer necessary to escape characters in a URL when used in text within PHP?

I'm looking for best practices and common usage. When including a url in text -- say, sharing a web address on a contact page or in a news story -- what is an example of the proper way to escape it or otherwise handle it properly?

Let's use http://www.mysite.com/folderOne/thisHerePage as an example.

I'm not talking about within a input box, just vanilla text within PHP tags. Do I use HTML entity codes?
