how come step 1 breaks by step 3?

For some reason, when I got to step 3, step 1 stopped working. I don't know why...

app.js
var answer = prompt("What is the best programming language?");
if (answer === "JavaScript") {
  alert("You are correct");
} else () {
  alert("JavaScript is the best language!");
}

It stops working because the syntax you added to the third part breaks all of the code. I was confused by the very same thing.. The error is after your else statement you have "()". remove the brackets and it should run

You have an extra () after else. This code passed:

var answer = prompt('What is the best programming language?');
if (answer === 'JavaScript') {
  alert('You are correct');
} else {
  alert('JavaScript is the best language!');
}
