JavaScript JavaScript Basics (Retired) Storing and Tracking Information with Variables Using String Methods

How do I add a character such as the # before a word using concatenation? The var smith example would output #smith

Im trying to ad two variables togther but add a # in front of the second.

app.js
var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";
var userName = (id + '#' + lastName.toUpperCase());
index.html

You need to set the ID to upper case too.

The concatenation is correct, but the challenge will fail if ID is not uppercase.

var userName = (id.toUpperCase() + '#' + lastName.toUpperCase());

Thanks

You can also add toUpperCase() in one shot by grouping with parentheses.

var userName = (id + '#' + lastName).toUpperCase();

Thanks for the tip
