This is the coorect anser:

function getYear() { var year = new Date().getFullYear(); return year; }

For task 3 of 3 this is the anser:

function getYear() { var year = new Date().getFullYear(); return year; }

var yearToday = getYear();

was confusing at first. But forgot the closing brackets.

See following code, hope it can help you.

function getYear(){
        return new Date().getFullYear();
}

thanks so much Yong!

now task 3 of 3 is asking me to call a function, tearToday but i still receive the bummer message

The wording on task 3 of 3 is a bit strange, but after I stopped to think about it, I was able to find the answer. You literally have to create the new variable and then call the function inside of it. No idea why I let that confuse me, but for anyone else who may have issues with that in the future, just refer to this answer.
