JavaScript JavaScript Basics (Retired) Storing and Tracking Information with Variables Using String Methods

How do I , add a # symbol and lastName in uppercase to the end of the userName string?

I have converted both variables (ID & lastName) to uppercase but how do I then concatenate this to the userName string? A step by step process will help me understand as I am totally confused by this question Thank you.

app.js
var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";

var userName = id.toUpperCase( );
var name = lastName.toUpperCase( );
index.html

There are two ways to concatenate strings. The way that you are using, requires using the "+=" operator each time you make a statement after the variable is declared. You have declared the "userName" variable, but then every statement after that, you will need to use the "userName" variable, followed by "+=." This will add whatever is on the right, to what the variable already is on the left. Also, you don't want to put anything in the parentheses. Also, I'm not sure if having space in between your parentheses for your "toUpperCase()" method as "toUpperCase( );" will affect your code, so you might want to remove that as well. after So:

var userName = id.toUpperCase();

userName += "#";

userName += lastName.toUpperCase();

The question is .. Finally, add a # symbol and lastName in uppercase to the end of the userName string. The final value of userName is "23188XTR#SMITH".

But I really dont understad this question?? I have an incorrect answer?

var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";

var userName = id.toUpperCase( );
var answer = ('#' + username);
