How do I complete this challenge?

my code is not working i don't know where is the problem

You are close, just don't put any numbers as the arguements:

function max( x, y) {
  if (x > y) {
    return x;
  } else {
    return y;
  }
}

Your code should look something like this. The challenge asks for one argument and then create a variable that calls the function with a string as the argument. This string could be anything. Hope that helps!

function returnValue(x){
    return x 
    };
var echo = returnValue('string');
