Do I still need to download all this other stuff like Homebrew?

47,913 PointsYou should take the course on Installing a Ruby Development Environment first. They recently added the Ruby Foundations course to the Rails track, and I think they should've put the aforementioned installation course before the new Ruby Foundations

6,658 PointsMakes sense. This video still walks you through set up of dev environment from scratch. I was just unsure about references to an older version of OS X etc.

10,868 PointsXcode is a command line tool, but if you are writing ruby file (.rb) then I would use notepad++. In the console basic that you go through will help you with the rest.
I am using a mac OSX Mavericks and I am using Coda 2 for my editor.

47,913 PointsThey don't even make a version of Notepad++ for OS X. My personal recommendation is Atom
